One frame, one flag. No Kings presents a single photograph from Sioux Falls, South Dakota in the Spring of 2025.

Demonstrators line a curb, shoulder to shoulder, facing traffic. They hold hand-lettered signs and small American flags on sticks. In the foreground, out of focus, a man in a blue shirt raises a pole of his own. Past him, in the sharp part of the frame, a man in khakis and a work shirt has stepped off the curb and is walking the edge of the roadway with his back to the camera, both hands over his head on a flagpole. The flag is black, with a band of stars and stripes across it and two words in white block letters: F*CK TRUMP.

The picture is made with a long lens from down the line, so the crowd compresses into a wall of signs and the man with the flag walks alone in open pavement beside it. Nobody's face is the subject. The subject is the distance between the sidewalk and the street, and the one person who crossed it.

The language on the flag is his. It is printed here as it was carried.

Nothing here is staged or composited. The viewer is left to draw conclusions from the record.
